MICRO-BLAZE® F O G
A Preventative Maintenance Program for Collection Systems

Maintenance requirements within collection systems for organic deposits (grease, fats, etc.) odor H2S, and crown corrosion are a way of life, and in many cases, must be dealt with daily by collection system personnel. Standard procedures may require jetting of clogged lines or the use of harsh or toxic chemicals such as caustics, strong acids, chlorinated hydrocarbons, hydrogen peroxide or chlorine. While successful, these techniques are costly, hazardous to operation personnel, and many times they result in toxic levels of pH loading at the receiving treatment plant.

MICRO-BLAZE® F O G offers a safe, non-toxic solution to resolve most collection system maintenance problems. The Micro-Blaze® Solution is based on line augmentation applications within the collection systems. MICRO-BLAZE® F O G contains selectively adapted strains of bacteria for a synergistic blend of selected micro-organisms with enhanced ability to degrade greases, fats and oils at an accelerated rate. When MICRO-BLAZE® F O G is utilized in collection systems, the cultures liquefy, digest and remove organic deposits from fouled lines. Regular applications maintain the lines free of organic deposits, reduce or eliminate related odors and reduce or eliminate hydrogen-sulfide odors and corrosion.

Bacteria augmentation of collection systems offers a true, non-toxic preventative maintenance program to insure system integrity, reduction in man hours, chemical costs and continuous flows. Bio-augmentation requires application of prescribed dosages in intervals to control wash-out of established colonies. The program is not complicated and does not require advanced preparation.

Bio-augmentation, using MICRO-BLAZE® F O G is unique when compared to chemical applications. Bacteria, when applied to the collection system, multiplies within the system establishing massive colonies to resolve organic deposit problems. Chemicals, on the other hand, are simply diluted with the system flow rates, thus reducing their effectiveness downstream from the application point.

APPLICATION
When treating a specific area such as (augmentation) lift stations, wet wells or line problems, it is recommended that application of MICRO-BLAZE® F O G be made to a manhole upstream of the problem area. If this is impractical, applications should be made directly to the desired area. To resolve problems in wet wells, applications should be made at the end of a pumping cycle to provide optimum growth rate and residence time.

START-UP
Inoculation or start-up of an augmentation program requires daily additions to the desired area for five to seven days to establish the desired biological colonies within the collection system. Maintenance dosages are normally achieved thru drip systems to maintain the population and prevent system washout of the bio-mass. Treatment levels will vary in accordance with system flow. loading and pipe size.

BENEFITS
Noted improvement should be seen for organic deposit reduction within the collection system to include reduced loading on the lift stations and reduction of odor throughout the system within seven to forty-five days of the initial inoculation. Energy savings may also be gained at lift station as a result of reductions in lines and pump restrictions (90 days). A major benefit of bio-augmentation is the positive impact on receiving treatment plants.

Treatment plants receiving wastes from collection systems utilizing augmentation programs normally experience improvements within the biological system for odor reduction, improved plant stability, rapid shock recovery, improved settling in the secondary clarifiers, and overall reduction in BOD and suspended solids in the final effluent. In fact, MICRO-BLAZE® F O G contains a specific formulation designed to enhance wastewater plant performance or resolve problems resulting from difficult-to-degrade compounds or shock loading.
