The old days of wearing your dirty bunker gear as a badge of honor are over. Research spanning decades shows that firefighters have significantly higher rates of cancer due to their occupational exposure to toxic chemicals. Ensure that your PPE and bunker gear is as clean as possible by using Micro-Blaze® PPE DE-CON Cleaner after each use. In doing so, we can help reverse the rising cancer rate among firefighters by removing the toxic carcinogens from PPE and bunker gear.
Micro-Blaze® PPE DE-CON Cleaner is a completely safe, non-toxic formulation of biological activators and selected all-natural and non-pathogenic microbes that break down, remove and digest organic contaminates on uniforms, turnout gear, hoods and gloves.
The numerous strains of microbes in Micro-Blaze® PPE DE-CON Cleaner provide a synergistic degradation of the organic and hydrocarbon pollutants. Its proprietary combination of wetting agents, nutrients, and microbes make it an ideal formulation for cleaning and decontaminating firefighting gear.
Application
Preliminary Exposure Reduction (PER)
Micro-Blaze® PPE DE-CON Cleaner can be used for Preliminary Exposure Reduction (PER) at the scene to help remove surface contaminants from turnout gear prior to full laundering.
Mix Micro-Blaze® PPE DE-CON Cleaner at a 10% solution (1 part PPE-DECON to 9 parts water), apply to contaminated gear, and rinse thoroughly with water.
Handwashing / Pre-soaking
- Mix Micro-Blaze® PPE DE-CON Cleaner with water at a 3% solution (light soiling) or 5% solution (heavy soiling) per set.
- Place uniforms, turnout gear, hoods, and gloves in the solution and soak as needed to degrease and decontaminate gear. Recommended soak time is a minimum of 1 hour.
- Remove gear from the solution and rinse with water.
- Thoroughly squeeze out gear and hang to dry. Do not wring out gear as this may damage the equipment. Uniforms, gloves, and hoods can be placed in a dryer for faster drying.
For Use in an Extractor
For best results, pre-soak according to instructions above
If pre-soaked:
- Place gear into the extractor and run the usual wash/rinse cycle with no additional Micro-Blaze® PPE DE-CON Cleaner added.
- Hang gear to dry or place in dryer.
If NOT pre-soaked:
- Add Micro-Blaze® PPE DE-CON Cleaner per extractor size:
- 30 lb extractor: 3–4 oz
- 40 lb extractor: 4.5–6 oz
- 60 lb extractor: 7.5–10 oz
- Wash on usual wash/rinse cycle at 120°F or below.
- Hang gear to dry or place in dryer.
